A film about Ernst Reijseger’s participation at benefit concerts to save the music theater ‘Teatro Valle Occupato’ in Rome.

Built in 1726, Teatro Valle, the oldest working theater in Rome, was shut down in 2010 as part of the Italian government’s budget cuts. For two years now it has been occupied by protesters who fight against plans for it to be demolished and turned in to a hotel. I traveled there in May with Dutch Cellist Ernst Reijseger to make a film about three days of rehearsals and concerts curated by Itlalian cellist Giovanni Sollima in Yeatro Valle playing host to one hundred Cello players, resulting in a concert at Piazza San Giovanni when they all played together for 200,000 people.

  2. … and the ghosts of theatre are alive and kicking and breaking out in harmonious crescendo to the sounds of Reijseegeer´s strings … to live on where they are most comfortable … at their Teatro Valle abode. Thankyou for filming this heartening reason to travel to Rome.
