Alain Mc Fadden is a multi instrumentalist / singer-songwriter based in Dublin. On tour as fourth member of the wheel for the Irish folk act Ye Vagabonds, I managed to borrow Alain before a Ye Vagabonds sound-check and get him to play one of his own compositions ‘Sing Out West’ in the front bar of legendary folk club DeBarra’s in Clonakilty, West Cork. The venue is high on my list as one of Ireland’s great, if not greatest folk music venues. Having frequented there for many years, it’s always such a pleasure to laze in one of the snugs and eyeball the walls, filled with memorabilia donated to the venue by the late great Noel Redding, of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Noel played a residency gig with his friends every Friday in DeBarra’s for 20 years, until his untimely death in 2003. I thought it a very fitting tribute to showcase the music of Alain in this video along with the many images and memories of Noel’s life that hang on the wall. Alain is accompanied by Brían Mac Gloinn of Ye Vagabonds on Harmonium and backing vocal duties.
